Winter Dinghy Park

Hi All, It’s that time of year when the sailing season is over and the winter series will begin (after the Cruiser and Sandhopper liftout 21/22nd October). As per the Club program, all dinghies should have vacated the dinghy park in order for these manoeuvres take place. Specifically rows E,F,G.
If you own a pico or laser and wish to pay for storage for the winter please contact your class captain to discuss rack storage and how you will put your boat on the racks. It is YOUR OWN responsibility to ensure your boats are moved.

Sandhopper Nationals 2019 Part Deux

Published by under Racing,Sandhoppers

We will be running the Sandhopper Nationals on the 19th/20th October and this will also incorporate the Final Fling Trophy. Unfortunately we lost the scheduled event due to high winds so we are looking forward to the re-run and hopeful of fair weather conditions!

If anyone is interested in joining us and taking part (there’s no club racing that weekend) please let me know. I am sure there may be boats available to sail. It will be a great event and as there’s no club racing, we’ll be able to hold it directly off the clubhouse so spectators will have a better view.

We are looking for volunteers to run the ribs. If you are free please let me know, my number is in the sailing programme.

Howard

TBYC Endeavour Trophy – 2019

Commodore, Steve Hopper suggested that we invite all last year’s class winners to sail in the Sandhopper against our National Champions. Little did he think I’d take him at his word! We did it. And what an event it was.

Poaching the name from the Royal Corinthian’s famous and highly prized Endeavour Trophy, we set about our own. Although after some discussion it was decided that this should be a perpetual trophy, sailed each year but for any class to offer the challenge and defend their honour against the top crews in the club. Next year we could be in Picos, Hurricanes, Lasers; whoever offers up the challenge first.

This inaugural year was ours. The Sandhopper. Eight very special owners offered up their boats to be used in the regatta which was a resounding success. Lots were drawn for who sailed which boat at the cadet week prize giving, with an invite going to the winners of the cadet week to take part. Of course, we had to handicap our National Champions and they gracefully accepted to sail Primo – our class boat kindly sponsored by Primo Insurance. She’s very overweight with old sails, ropes and spars and most of the anti-fouling missing of her hull.

Here’s how the day went…..
