2022

Cadet Week 2022 is almost here. It is looking like the weather is going to be great and we are looking forward to a fantastic week!
Please note that the carpark at the front of the club will be closed after sailing on Saturday 23rd July to allow the marquee to be assembled and for the rest of the week..
We will operate a one way system through the dinghy park during the day and members are asked to leave via the council carpark to avoid bottle necks at the end of the day.
Please park considerately in the grass carpark especially on Tuesday for the activity night as some of the field will be reserved for the bouncy castles. We DO NOT have use of the overflow carpark. If you park in there you will need to purchase a ticket.
It is your responsibility to cross the road and cycle lane safely with your cadet. Please use the island when possible.
The East grass area in front of the dinghy is for ribs and rib trailers only – no rigging boats please
The following will be circulated via email and displayed in the foyer
Children’s groups will be displayed in the foyer next weekend.
If you have offered to help with pottery painting or supervising bungee run please add your name to the list in the foyer.
Once again a massive thank you to all our sponsors and the parents and volunteers who are essential to the smooth running of the event.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at registration on Sunday 24th July between 3-5pm
Many thanks

Please, let me know, numbers will be helpful for planning.
Parents, I need your help with the preparations, mark laying, launching SS9, helping sailors to launch, helming Polly and crewing for safety and results. Please let me know if you wish to help.
Best would be to start getting things ready at around 13:00.

Session full! If another session is possible we will prioritise those who couldn’t attend this weekend 😊
Saturday 18th June meeting at 13.30 on the beach rigged and changed
Andras and Mark D will be offering an additional small group session for up to 8 cadets who are transitioning to Piranhas for Cadet Week or who Piranhas who have not been on the water this year. If places remain they can be allocated to any cadet who expresses an interest.
If there is lots of interest, 2 short, 1 hour sessions maybe run.
It is essential that you comment on Facebook or email [email protected] to request a place.
Thanks

Not going ahead:
After school sailing Thursday or Friday at 16:00
16-17 June 2022
After assessing the forecast we decided not to go ahead.
Thursday there was little interest anyway with a very short window.
Friday unfortunately there is increasing sea breeze with outgoing tide, not safe to coach a group with limited safety resources.
If you see parents and cadets, keep it in mind that there is no coaching, no safety boat cover.
I am sorry, I was keen, but the weather is not with us.

Briefing at 14.45 (changed and rigged, meet on the sea wall). Leaving the beach at 15.00.
This activity is aimed at the more experienced Cadet Sailors to develop their Racing skills. Sessions include exercises to improve boat handling, sailing a set course, starting and finishes with a series of short races.
CADETS ARE TO COMPLETE THE FULL SESSION, coming back during a session is not an option due to safety reasons. Parents are encouraged to help with preparation, recovery and on-the-water.
Please complete the short form to register your child for this session. Click here
(This allows me to prepare the Race sheet and save so much time on the day)

After school sailing Thursday or Friday at 16:00
16-17 June 2022
With Nick we are considering arranging sailing for cadets.
Please, let me know if you are interested.
The weather is good, and there will be enough water for a sailing session each day.
Any sailor in any boat could come who can sail independently (at least tack around and stay in the sailing area). This is not a learn to sail course.
Experienced sailors may wish us to set up a practice race course and may ask for racing drills.
For less experienced sailors we will provide coaching and supervision.
The aim of the session is to enjoy sailing in a sunny weather and have fun.
I will ask sailors to remain in the agreed sailing area to ensure appropriate safety cover.
Parents, we will be grateful for your help with safety.
Please, let me know if you are interested:

This Sunday 12th June we have a Cadet session on the water.

This is open to all Cadets who can sail a triangular course (Beat and Reach), but do not need to be a champion……yet!
This is to cover Andras’s session, as he cannot attend this weekend. My plan is to have some training, a couple of games and two short races that everyone can enjoy. For safety, Cadet are required to complete the full session and not come in early.
09.15 Briefing on Sea wall. (Please be changed and rigged).
09.30 Leave Beach
Parental help is needed please.
You should try to move your boat to the beach before 8.45 because of the Southend Half Marathon. See TBYC E-Mail and post.
