Squadron 17 revival!
The only 3 sail race dinghy designed purely for youngsters!

The UK National Cadet Class Association have heard that we are trying to revive the Cadet Class fleet at TBYC and many of you have already commented how great it is to see these boats return to the club. The Asscociation have very kindly given me 2 boats to help us revive Squadron 17 (last in operation over 20 years ago!)
Boat available immediately, ready to sail in the Winter Series!
I am looking for 2 cadets for one of these boats. You will have full responsibility for the boat – insurance, dinghy park fees and running repairs. But the use of the boat is FREE. It would also be desirable that you try to take part in the 3 Indicator events and the Nationals next year.
NB: These are not “beach boats” and are to be used for racing and sail training only.
If you want to know more or are interested in taking a boat please contact me: [email protected] and come and join the only double-handed youth racing dinghy fleet. Or if you want to buy your own boat click here for the UKNCCA for sale list: http://www.mariner.co.uk/classifieds/pages/search/searchresult.asp

Over the past couple of weeks we have been having problems with one of the displacement boats leaking fuel. When it was realised what was happening, three people, Mark Dell, Toby Speller and Peter Thompson set about removing and repairing the fuel tank and then refitting over a few evenings last week, all in time for the weekends 9’er Open Meeting. On behalf of all TBYC members, “Thank you and well done guys”.

Jess Quinlan & Alex Warrington – Otters/TBYC GBR 8407
George Warrington & Johnny Van Ingen – TBYC/Stone GBR 9029
Molly Brown & Ben Warrington – Otters/TBYC GBR 3069
3rd Indicator – Parkstone YC
Great weekend’s sailing in 12kt breeze, albeit very shifty making the beats very complex and seeing some “outsiders” coming through the fleet. Jess and Alex finished 6th overall after a reasonably consistent event. Molly and Ben cam 3rd in the Silver fleet and were often in the top 10 at the windward mark. George and Johnny had a comendable 29th place in one race. Again, the chance and experiance of sailing in a huge fleet (75 entries) is a fantastic opportunity for our youngsters.
WORLD TEAM SELECTIONS
After this consistent weekend, Jess and Alex have qualified 5th out of the 7 boats selected to represent GBR at the coming World Championships to be held in Argentina at Christmas. This is a great achievement and we are all very proud of their success. This will now be Alex’s 3rd World Team selections since being asked to crew for Ollie Herve in Wales. Thanks Ollie!!

So now comes the difficult time of raising the funds to send them! If any club member has any ideas or whose company might be able to offer some form of sponsorship I would be very pleased to hear from you.
