Kyle Wins Tornado Nationals 2009

Published by at 11:14 under Catamarans,Nationals,Racing

Over a busy weekend at Whitstable, Kyle won the Saturday Series with one first and two seconds. He then went on to score a third and double points in the Forts Race Tornado medal series race to secure overall victory. A supreme effort by Kyle and Oliver Herve in what was their first ever Tornado national event. None of ther other Tornado sailors had met this all conquering team from Thorpe Bay Yacht Club – but they wont forget them in a hurry either !

Congratulations to David White for winning the F18 series beating a profesional crew from Nacra UK to score a sensational series win with a large fleet of very competative sailors.

Nick Elmore and Sam Spratt came second in the mixed fleet to complete a great event.

Thorpe Bay Yacht Club was mentioned more than any other at yesterday’s prize giving – certainly an impressive set of results.

    Congratulations Kyle and Ollie.
Kyle, our signwriter will soon be getting used to writing your name on our honours board.
Well done to all TBYC members who also competed.

This is a wonderful achievement. Well done, Kyle Stoneham and Ollie Herve. For Kyle, it is his second championship title in 14 days. He already had the Sprint nationals in his haul. Incredible.

As Nick Elmore has observed, Thorpe Bay Yacht Club has become a truly cat-centric club. It is no surprise the Hurricane 5.9s have chosen TBYC to stage their nationals in 2010.

But for Kyle, this has been a wonderful moment. What a role model he has become for our cadets!

    Andrew.

What an achievement. Kyle already had the Sprint national championships in his haul. Now, he has won a second championship, in the Tornado class, all within fourteen days. Congratulations. And congratulations also, to Ollie Herve.

As Nick Elmore has observed, Thorpe Bay YC is a top venue for catamaran sailors. It is hardly a surprise the Hurricanes have chosen TBYC to host their nationals in 2010.

There is much more to come. Kyle and Ollie have become role models for all of us, especially our cadets. William Thomason and Molly Christian are barely into their teens, and they have taken their first steps into cat sailing.

But for the moment, this is Kyle’s year. Well done!

    Andrew.

Kyle and Ollie you were a fantastic team and achieved something over the weekend that 99% of sailors can only dream of.
I watched them both days from the shore & also close hand on Kens rib which he zoomed over on from T. bay. Watching them cross the finishing line of the combined Forts Race & tornado Nationals race double points final race, two more proud Dads you would not see.
Getting there on Friday evening was another story but “our cunning plan “over the QE2 bridge was the answer.
Nick & Sam did well in the sometimes gusty & testing winds over what is a very long course exceeding 70 miles on the water. Lots of sore hands & aching muscles today for all but no one will say it wasnt worth every blister.
David & his crew deserve their own congratulations which I hope will be posted seperately.

It was one of the best weekends I have had in years, crowned by the results of our sailors. Thanks Nick for putting us all up in the camper & also for the invaluable part you have played over the last couple of years in my sons development.
    Glenn Stoneham.

Well done Kyle. Two championships in fourteen days is some going. Not many sailors have done that. Congratulations to Ollie Herve too. These two lads have won a genuine adult championship.

Unquestionably, Kyle and Ollie are role models for our other cadets. And we have plenty in the pipeline. Already, we have William Thomason and Molly Christian in Sprints, which are the gateway to the bigger cats.

Congratulations fast cat teams: I pop up to Scotland for a weekend and miss all the fun. Well done to Kyle and Ollie, what a achivement on the water and in such a short time, just watch this space for future events. The same goes to David White and crew winning the f18 open, just a few weeks ago David in his new boat came 4th in the UK Nationals. Well done Nick and Sam for being second in difficult conditions and Sam being new to the F20 fleet as well. Here’s to the next event, Canvey Cat open just down the road.

    Cheers! Struan
