Last cadet race training of this season

Published by under Cadets

Sunday 3rd of October, 2021 10:00

It was great to see so many sailors joining the club race. I know them for years, teenagers, making the effort on a grey cloudy morning with strong breeze. What credit you all are to our club.

It is constant source of immense pleasure and satisfaction for me to coach the new generation. Great to see how much our team has grown in confidence and skills this season. We had 11 boats with 12 sailors today, the growing RS Tera fleet came out with 7 boats this morning. In strong winds and rolling waves our sailors bravely gave it a go, even the youngest and least experienced. I saw confidence, amazing technical skills, focus and determination, capsize and fast and slick recovery. Most importantly however there is love for sailing and fun on the water. Sailors talk to each other more and more, our team spirit is building up.

Our cadet sailors should be really proud of themselves. Great achievements, great team.
They must not forget however that it is their parents who look after them, take them to the club and support their sailing.

What a great team of parents, helpers and supporters we had this season! The sailing and general committee must know how much of effort and volunteering goes into cadet sailing these days. We all can see that this is not done in vain.

I am specially grateful to my friend and partner Nick Alston, we worked together and supported each other relentlessly over the years. Special thanks to our present and past core supporters, we all know who you are.

Next weekend we are hosting the Open training of the Tera East group, the first of their winter training series. What a great way to see the end of the season.

The Winter season is starting for many. Those who do understand that our sport is not about sunshine and heat will not be disappointed. I am looking forward to spend a bit more time with sailing. There are ways to get involved for all members.

I am sure that cadets and parents will be eager to hear about what plans are being made for the next season. Have your say and let me know what was good and what are the things we could do better.

You all have a great end of season, winter and looking forward to the next season soon.

Andras

Interclub ‘Cadet’ Team Race at TEYC

Published by under Club Notices

Congratulations to Team 2; Michael, Nathan, Eleanor, Ashleigh, Charlotte and Holly for gaining 1st place in the Interclub ‘Cadet’ Team Race.
Well done to all 22 Cadets who represented TBYC in the Interclub ‘Cadet’ Team Race on Sunday 19th September. We gained the first 3 positions and even a 5th place with some of our sailors who have just started sailing this season.
1st place TBYC Team 2
2nd place TBYC Team 1
3rd place TBYC Team 3
5th place TBYC Team 4
There were 73 boats, adults and Cadets, entered for the event.  The Mass start was exciting and a little frightning from the beginning, but our Cadets manage to make good progress and complete the course with good times. A special mention to Hannah and Lydia in their RS200 who actually gained 3rd place out of all 73 boats.

ALL SAILING MEMBERS!

Published by under Club Notices

Dear Members

We have had over 100 entries for the Winter Sailing and Storage. We are passed the deadline to secure a slot but will of course take entries. However, these will now be on a discretionary basis and a space will not be guaranteed.

ALL OTHER DINGHIES must vacate the dinghy park by the 10th October – just over 2 weeks from now. If no entry for storage is in place before then, it will be assumed that you will be taking your boat home on or before this date.

There are many boats in the dinghy park that have not been touched for years. If owners don’t come forward and they are unidentifiable (which the club rules require) they may be disposed of. Please don’t be that owner who does nothing and leaves it to others to move!

Thank you for your help with this.

Regards

Howard

Can you help? Cadet Halloween Party

Published by under Club Notices

Volunteers needed…. Cadet Halloween party 30th October…
Unfortunately I can’t commit to organise and host this popular event for our younger members. Is anyone able to take this on?
You would need to decorate the main bar and then take down and pack up at the end (we have some decorations)
Arrange sweets/snacks for trick and treat buckets
Welcome the disco
Be around throughout the party
I will arrange disco and ticket sales
If no one volunteers by Sunday the event will be cancelled. Please contact me for further information.
Thanks in anticipation
