Tim Allard is holding a Pico surgery this Saturday, starting around 14.00hrs, in the dinghy park. It is for parents and cadets who haven’t sailed for a while, and is an ideal opportunity to make sure all equipment if sound and in good condition prior to Cadet Week and to ask any questions you may have.
As some of you know Kyle Stoneham, Chris Clarke, Danny Clark, Miles Burridge and Mark Dell are representing TBYC at the Moth Nationals this week and the worlds next week at Hayling Island.
116 boats have entered for the Nationals
140 have entered for the worlds meaning this is the biggest moth event in history.
Along with an amazing line up of sailors including Olympic medallist, World Champions and Americas cup sailors.
Another event that as a club we have demonstrated that we welcome these events and that we support them well. We have had many excellent comments from sailors that were visiting and this would not have been possible without our members. This includes the Sprint 15 sailors that entered but also worked hard until they were on the water, all those that volunteered and went on a Rota (some supplying boats), those members and cadets that came down from the club house at short notice to help on the beach (Rupert Snow is memorable “Aim at me”), the staff we employ (over 900 pints of beer were poured) and finally everybody that were friendly to all the visitors over the weekend.
Even though everybody does this unpaid, please remember this has brought required funds into the club in entry fees, catering and refreshments behind the bar.
There was success for Thorpe Bay out of the 83 boats sailed with the us winning the Team Event. Finley Cullender was 1st Junior, Gerald and Nathan Sverdloff was 2nd Two up. Steve Healy was 6th overall, 1st over 50 and 5th Most Improved, Gary Sverdloff was 2nd Most Improved, Keith Persin 3rd Heavyweight. The following Thorpe Bay Sailors were all in the top quarter overall Steve Healy, Andrew Wood, Chris Tillyer, Jim Bowie, Gary Sverdloff, Peter Thompson and Andrew Hannah. Although well done to everybody else. Peter Thompson without doubt showed us all up, sailing in shorts and shirt, often standing (must be his skills from the paddle boards) and being there at the front of many races.
Thank you to everybody for your time.
Paul Morgan (and Steve Healy), Sprint 15 Captains.
Well done to Alan Burrell and Jourdan Swindon who both comepeted at the Finn Nationals at West Kirby Sailing Club last weekend. Alan was 2nd overall and Jourdan 17th – the only Junior in the competition. Very tricky winds and a whopper of a tide! Well done guys!

In a precursor to the UK Nationals & Cadet World Championships in Weymouth next month Alex Warrington & Anna Wootton (Waldringfield SC) have this afternoon won the Belgium Cadet Nationals held during the 2014 Flanders Youth Regatta.
This weekend the club is hosting the Sprint 15 Nationals. This is a good opportunity for the all members to join us in the fun off the water. We have arranged entertainment on both Saturday and Sunday night. Both nights it will be starting around 8:30. Sunday Night it will be following the Sprint 15 Association Dinner, so if this is still ongoing when you arrive there should be room around the bar and on the balcony to have a drink. Please don’t stay away just because you don’t know anybody that sails a Sprint 15.
Saturday – Martin McNeill’s Bottleneck Blues
Martin McNeill and his band are local and regularly play at pubs/concerts etc in Essex. On Saturday night he will play for us as a trio supported by a JJ Zarbo on the double base and a drummer. When possible they are supported by West Weston singer/harmonic player extraordinaire. They can be appreciated every 3rd Sunday at the Railway, Southend.
Sunday – Darren Jones – Acoustic Guitarist
Darren Jones…’The Kid From Canvey’ due to play live at Thorpe Bay Yacht Club. “An upcoming artist with a talent which will charm you to just want more from him. His amazing acoustic sound, quick ‘Clint Eastwood’ like hands, and beautiful lyrics set him aside from the rest. He plays original songs of his own, and loves to cover classic songs from all eras in his own style.”
