Thames Estuary Yacht Club is organising their regular Open Junior Race.
Our Cadet Committee is strongly supporting the event, we believe that this would be a great opportunity to do something exciting, especially in the view of the great progress of our cadets regularly participating in Pico Racing.
This is rather a short notice, and at present we do not have much details. I approached the Club and will provide more information as soon as I can.
This event needs considerable planning and logistical effort . It would be very helpful to know, how many of you are keen to participate, so that we could make every possible effort to make this a great success. We will need to transport the boats there.
Cadets, this is going to be great fun, big event, meeting other cadets, showing what you learnt and seeing what you can learn from others. Do not be shy, you will love every minute of it. Talk to your friends, go for it.
Parents, we all need your support, more than ever.
I hope to hear from keen sailors and parents soon:
We are doing the training with Nick tomorrow, as it was too windy today. We plan to meet at 15:30 just to change and rig and get going. Launch the boats at 16:30, before the club race. Lewis volunteered to escort us with his RIB. We did the classroom discussion this afternoon. We had 12 cadets on the theory session. Tomorrow the forecast suggests more pleasant wind. I hope you all could join in.
See you on the water:
Andras
Plan:
– Change, and rig the boats straight away
– We will set a triangular course on the water near club mark 3.
– Cadets leave beach at 16.30
– Sailors sail straight to the start line.
– Warm up: figure of 8 around the start line
– Tacking on the whistle towards the windward mark
– One lap of the course, concentrating on sail position/trim (include 5 essentials as appropriate). RIB is going to support sailors with advice.
– Three 2 lap races, small triangular course.
– De-briefing 18.15 – 18.30 Sail Training Room

Although there was no entry fee to this event competitors were asked to donate to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation. On the day we collected £80 in the boxes at the club, and some donations were made online. If you haven’t and would still like to donate you can do so at www.bartsbash.com/united-kingdom/thorpe-bay-yacht-club or leave you donation, marked “Barts Bash” at the club. Big thanks to all those who participated and/or donated.
On behalf of the Club, I would like to extend an invitation to Club Members to attend the ‘At Home’ this Sunday, September 25th from 12.00pm, where there will be a buffet and an opportunity to meet members of other Yacht/Sailing Clubs from along our coastline.
The Committee & I look forward to seeing you there.
This year, Bart’s Bash is being held on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th Sept with racing starting at 11:00am and 12:00am respectively.
Please join in and support this event.
The format for the weekend will be a mini-series comprising of 4 races. Racing on Saturday will be 2 normal class races utilising the usual courses and start sequence. Racing on Sunday will be a further class race followed by the Bart’s Bash race. This will be a mass start, mixed fleet, average lap race.
TBYC continues to be a registered Bart’s Bash event venue. Elapsed time and distance, together with sailing conditions, will be uploaded to the Bart’s Bash results site.
There are no entry fees for this event but entrants are requested to donate to the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation through the Bart’s Bash website or at the charity boxes at the club on the day of the event. A donation of £10 is suggested.
Bart’s Bash is officially a monster The Largest Sailing Race in the World, verified by Guinness World Records.
The first bash in 2014 saw over 30,000 sailors take to the water at over 550 locations around the world. Forty eight boats took part at TBYC
Bart’s Bash is now an annual fundraising and participation campaign promoted by the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation (ASSF) and this year, the organisers want to see participation grow like crazy and see Bart’s Bash become the biggest sporting event in the world. http://www.bartsbash.com/

If anyone has found my lost Musto Spray Top I would be most grateful if they could contact me. I had the top on the slipway on The Sunday of the Sandhopper Nationals, but did not come ashore with it.
It’s very light grey in colour and xl in size at least.
