Our TBYC Cadet Team Racing Squad emerged bruised and battered after a grueling British Schools Championships at Maidenhead Sailing Club on Saturday. The event, which attracts the largest number of schools in the BSDRA calendar, completed against each other to take the title.
Our boys, who were the youngest at the event by far, had to compete against teams many years older. However, with determination, our tough squad of Thorpe Bay sailors battled the high winds, made some excellent starts, didn’t hold back on the protests and gave their very best. As the gusts reached 31 mph and in Fireflies, capsizes where swiftly recovered and as a team, the opposition were in for a challenging time. The umpire’s decisions seemed to go against us at times, but with a stiff upper lip, they battled on to take second place in the ‘Plate’ after winning two races in a row. Winchester College won overall.
Don’t be fooled by appearances, they are ruthless on the water. Well done boys!

The TBYC 2017 Regatta Notice of Race and Supplementary Sailing Instructions are attached below.
A similar format as in recent years.
6 Races ( 2 per day) over 3 days in 5 fleets – the same fleets, courses and start sequence as normal club races.
There is no separate cadet fleet. Cadet sailors can sail with the main fleets.
There is no entry fee. As usual, visitors are welcome in any class.
You may have noticed the unsightly raft of old sailboards, kayaks and canoes cluttering up the racks to the east of the steps as you enter the dinghy park. These items are sitting there, rent free, and this storage space is required for ongoing club projects, the storage of boats and other gear essential for the continued sailing and racing at the club.
These boards have been moved to the back of the club, where you have one month to either collect them and take them home, or put them under your boat in its allocated space in the dinghy park.
After this time has elapse (24th June 2017) and boards left will be disposed of accordingly.
Thank you for your cooperation.
