Aldenham Laser Open Meeting

Published by under Monohulls

3 Club Lasers flew the flag for TBYC again and  traveled to the lovely Aldenham Sailing Club on Sunday 10th June, We were greeted with sun, light wind and hand delivered coffee to the boats whilst rigging ( a thing i think we should take on one day !!) light and very shifty conditions made for some huge place changes up the beats which somehow we always managed to be on the wrong side of, as in race 2 i was leading lap 2 with Adam Smith  hard on my heels in 2nd but we still only managed to finish 4th and 9th respectively. This also was Glenn`s first lake event in his Laser and proved to be a bit of an eye opener for him, but he was always smiling after each race which is the main thing. After a lovely lunch followed by strawberries and cream we attempted to improve on the mornings results, alas that wasnt to be and the shifts got the better of us “salties” again, and the  overall end results were;
Rick Paxman 7th
Adam Smith 16th
Glenn Ratcliffe 20th
We have now attended three of the Thames Area Circuit so far this year and they are always great little clubs and great fun. We have all been asked numerous times at each Club as to when we are to be hosting an Open Meeting and thankfully i believe at long last it has been approved for next season. Plenty of time to get some practice in.

TBYC Hurricanes at Clacton

Published by under Catamarans,Racing

The Thorpe Bay flag was flying high in Clacton on Sea this weekend.

The dynamic duo of Julian Reichert and Jeremy Sandford took the win of the Clacton TT by just 1 point from Canvey regular Lloyd Turner.

Taking a well deserved 3rd place was Hurricane veteran Nick Elmore sailing with youngest son Charlie and putting up a great fight with a photo finish in race 3, so close that the race committee couldn’t decide who was in front!

Well done team TBYC.

Thank you

Published by under Catering

Dear Commadore, Vice Commodore, Committee and members of Thorpe Bay Yacht Club,

It has been 6 months since I started as Catering Manager at the club which Jenny and I have been members of for 17 years and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support in the new venture which now allows all the staff to work together as one.

I would like to thank Donna and all her team for working hard with me to embrace the changes made to improve the service to the members and their friends and families.
Also thank you to Sara Speller for her hard work and support promoting Friday club nights.

I would also like to say a special thank you to Barbara Herve and Margaret Kennedy for their endless supply of fresh herbs from their gardens which are readily utilised and much appreciated.

It was an honour to cook for those members who attended the 70th anniversary celebrations, huge congratulations to Anthony and Lisa for their organisation over the whole weekend the club looked fantastic. Speical thanks to Mick Kilkelly for his assistance and support at the Christmas and 70th ball.

My final thanks goes to Janet for her daily help and support to enable the smooth running of both the club and kithcen.

I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible over the Summer months to enjoy the Balcony Menu that has now been launched. There is a busy Summer ahead with Cadet week, Moth Nationals, Kestrel Nationals, Hornet Europeans and Cadet Nationals as well as the regular Oppie Beach club.

Once again, many thanks to you all for your continued support.

Kind Regards
H
