Race Officer Assistant and Support Boat Clubs

Why Not You ?

Why should the kids and your partner have all the fun?  Are you chauffer and cheerleader but stuck on shore and sometimes bored?  Do you sometimes stare with envy at the powered boats chasing the sailing boats around, or people aboard our luxury Committee Boat?

Just because you do not want to go sailing, does not mean you cannot be part of club sailing activities, so why not get out there amongst your children and partners?

Many club members are only here for the social side, and that’s great.  Hundreds are cadets, and that’s fantastic.  Hundreds race, and that’s brilliant.  Some only sail casually on a nice day, and that’s terrific.  Others want or have to support their family, which is fine as well.

BUT, if you would like to go out on a Sea Safe Boat and/or become a Race Officer Assistant, but do not know how to go about getting there, then now is your time.  We can offer you a channel to become a trained Club Support Boats Crew and/or Race Officer Assistant.  Indeed, your club needs you, because no Crews or Assistants, means no racing for anybody.

At this time of year, the Sailing Programme has to be printed, so we have to set the Race Officer Assistants and Support Boat Crews, because without a rota to start with it would be impossible to try to man the necessary positions each week on an ad hoc basis.  However, for any number of reasons (most understandable like being on holiday, but some not so great excuses at the last minute which is really a let down for those relying on their club mates) there is sometimes a space for others to be able to come out and join in.  Indeed, for most Race Officers, one or two additional pairs or eyes and hands will always be gratefully welcomed, so there will certainly be ample opportunities.

But don’t know how?,  Or who to speak to?  Well you are all cordially invited to join our Race Officer Assistant and Support Boat Clubs.  The aim is to establish a reserve group of people, who can receive training and be ready to participate (which does not mean last choice or only when others do not want a dodgy duty) but be rolled out and added to the duty personnel list: even channelled to personal circumstances like support for cadets mid week.

Please send an e-mail to [email protected] with the Subject of “I am interested in joining the Race Officer Assistant Club (and/or) Support Boat Club”, with your name, contact telephone number and e-mail address.  You will then be contacted with information so you are trained ready for the assistant role when your opportunity knocks.
