Ian Kennedy sad news

Published by at 08:30 under Club Notices

Ian Kennedy passed away yesterday morning after a long and painful illness.
A true “Ian day” with clear blue sky and a lovely sailing breeze was a fitting tribute from the weather.
I knew Ian in his post sailing days and enjoyed many times with him catching the sunshine and peace in a lovely part of the world being Thorpe Bay Beach and that is how i shall hold my memories.
Ian being one of the longest serving members of Thorpe Bay Yacht Club always took a very keen interest in its affairs and was alway able to help with the history of members and events.
Thoughts are with the family and especially Margaret who has seen far too much pain and suffering and been a real saint.
once funeral details are known i shall let you know.

Some 16 yrs ago when I joined the club I knew very few members but I have never forgotten that one person in particular immediately made me feel very welcome and at home with his natural friendliness, charm and banter and he was always an asset in any conversation.
Laterly, Ian was in my view a very brave man even allowing for the tremendous love and support of his family, especially Margaret.
There is little that can be said to bring comfort at this early time of loss for those who were the closest to him but may I say that at the very least you must all be as proud of him as he was undoubtedly all of you.

    Glenn.

I remember Ian with fondness. I remember he always wore his sailing shoes, even when he went to work! He had loads of friends. On the water, he was always sportsmanlike. He was great company because he always put you at ease.
