Passenger Lift

Published by at 16:06 under Bar

The General Committee are currently seeking expressions of interest in a lift for less able members to access the first floor bars. We are a long way on with several companies in this regard. We would like to hear from anyone who has a view on the matter.

We anticipate putting in a Planning Application shortly and plans will be available to view on the notice board.

Is this exclusively for Sandhopper sailors or will anyone less than able bodied be able to use it?

Can we install 2 so that we can have races?

Can we have the course numbers in braille?

Every time I’m on the committee boat, the Sandhoppers ask me what the course is!

I hope you won’t choose one of those speaking ones…….”Going Down” will scare Barry.

The club should really have a Disabled Access Audit carried out. Any organisation which provides a service, as the club does, should have this done. The audit will recommend “reasonable adjustments” which will accommodate all disabled users including those with hearing difficulties and visual impairments. A lift might well be one of these reasonable adjustments.

In view of previous issues that have arisen may I suggest for the protection of committee members and to safeguards the clubs interests that an independent group of members is empowered to review the process that is being followed and to make recomendations on changes to the procedures if they feel there is a need.
