Slipway Update 09.06.09 and Grand Opening 27.06.09

Published by under Club Notices

As you will all be aware work on our new slipway started on programme last month. The main contractors Breheny Civil Engineering have made good progress in recent weeks, and size of the structure is now really starting to take shape. The last of the main supporting frame beams were placed yesterday along with the last of the insitu concrete connections. Work this week has slowed, to allow time for the remaining insitu joints below the water line to cure fully before loading and the spring tides have reduced the window of opportunity between tides to make good progress in reasonable working hours.

Some of the more keen members of the club who have taken an interest in the slipway may have noticed some slight cracking to the insitu joints at the top end of the slipway on the western side. These have been discussed at length with the design engineers Hemsley Orrell Partnership and Breheny Civil Engineering. Slight movement at the location of the vertical joints is to be expected as the beams are loaded up, these are deemed to be within tolerance of the design performance and not structurally significant, however as a precaution they will be filled with resin injection upon completion, to ensure water tightness and that the design life exceeds that of the specification of 60yrs.

The next delivery of deck planks is due on Monday 15th June and placing the remaining deck planks will commence the same day. Installation of the permanent steel support brackets to the pile heads will also commence next week. The contractors have confirmed they are on target to complete in June as scheduled, with the final timber edging and mooring rings being installed week commencing 22nd June. All being well Breheny should be finished by Friday 26th June and at present we are on target to be within our budget.

On the basis of this we are scheduling a Grand Opening on Saturday 27th June to coincide with our club Open Day. Keep an eye on the club website and notice boards for more details on this prestigious and historic event in our clubs history.

Kind Regards

Slipway Committee

Lost – Spitfire Boom

Published by under Club Notices

We rigged on the East grass area in front of the dinghy park on Monday
and at some point during the exercise our boom simply disappeared. We may have left it on the grass while rigging and left it behind when we crossed the road and hope that some well intentioned individual found it and put it somewhere for safe keeping.

Any information leading to recovery would be much appreciated. We are talking about a 2.5m length of black anodised tube approx 60mm in diameter.

Thanks

Robin

TBYC Friends and Family Membership Introduction Scheme

Published by under Club Notices

tbyc-friends-families-form-download1The continued growth of TBYC membership is required to ensure the financial stability of the club going forward. The club promotes sailing to both beginners and seasoned racers and cruisers, the clubhouse & training facilities are amongst the best in the UK.

This scheme is to promote an incentive to existing members and to recognise those that support the growth of the membership base by introducing their friends and families into sailing. This is a sport which develops confidence both on and off the water and is great fun in a relaxed and friendly environment.

For each friend or family taking membership the introducer will qualify for a £10.00 club voucher, up to a maximum of £40.00 for each family joining. The vouchers can be used in the bar, club restaurant (including club functions) or club shop.

If you introduce one senior member you qualify for a £10.00 voucher, introduce a couple and you qualify for £20.00 voucher, introduce a family of four or more (including children) and you can qualify for a £40.00 voucher.

To qualify for the vouchers the TBYC Introduction of Friends & Families Scheme Form must be completed and attached to the TBYC Application for Membership Form, with both submitted together. There are a few simple rules noted below.

We hope that all TBYC members will continue to support the club and help to increase membership over the coming year.

TBYC Friends and Family Membership Introduction Rules.

1. This scheme is open to TBYC members only.
2. The Introduction Form to claim vouchers must be fully completed and submitted with the Application for Membership Form.

Media Visibility

Published by under Club Notices

The echo have offered to print our results and race reports which is nice of them and they’ll even include a picture or two if they’re good or qas they put it “Any pix from digital cameras (wel captioned) appreciated and almost
certainly used…. especially iof they are mad or creative and not just
stock shots. We like close up action for newspaper not Beken-style
portraits.”
so if you’ve got a safety boat duty take your camera and see if you can get a picture in the paper.
They’d like any reports or pictures by 11am on a Monday so if you do get any good pictures then you’ll need to get them to me sharpish.

mail them to at [email protected] and I’ll forward on with the results.

Calling ALL TBYC members

Published by under Club Notices

This Sunday is the slipway appeal day. As you can see from the banner advert above it is £15 to get a pitch for the day, all this goes directly towards funding the slipway which is extremly important to the club. Even if you only have one item to sell, get in the spirit of the day and hire a pitch. It would be great to see the Dinghy park stuffed to the rafters with would be salespeople. Make it a fun day, and check out what your sailing pals are trying to flog!
