Benfleet Shield Sunday 4th Aug 2024
We intend to hold the Benfleet Shield Trophy Race this Sunday. The weather is looking favourable and subject to this holding, we will race. This may change at last minute and revert to 2 points races. This will be at the Race Officer’s discretion.
The format will be similar to last year with a split start to allow for the faster boats to be in the same tidal conditions as the others and arriving in the creek nearer towards high tide.
The start times will be:
Fast Monohull, Monohull and Sandhoppers – (who usually start in the 2nd and 3rd starts) will start at 11:15. Signal will be code flag “R” – General Handicap mass start
Windward/Leeward fleet boats will start at 11:45. Signal will be Code Flag “D” (normal starting signal)
The course will be posted on the white board at the top of the slipway. Ultimately there will be a port hand turning mark in Benfleet Creek. It will be one of the club’s tall orange inflatable buoys. It will be a committee boat start and a shore-box finish through the club line.
HW is at 13:32. There should be plenty of water to round the mark in the creek.

Race Officers Notice
RACE OFFICERS – PLEASE NOTE
From the TBYC Sailing Instructions. Don’t get yourself protested!
9.2 The Course – Shore Box Starts – Club Series Racing
Shore Box starts are to be used only when:
a) The Committee Boat is in use for an Open Event other than club racing
b) The Committee Boat is unusable and is agreed with either the Rear Commodore or Sailing Secretary
c) For Mid-Week, Winter and Icicle Series or when noted in the club calendar.
If racing is to be conducted from the Shore Box an orange flag will be flown from the shore box gantry.
The course will be designated on the blackboard at the West end of the Bosun’s Hut.

John Glynn
It is with sadness that I announce that John Glynn a long standing and active sailor until the last couple of years passed away peaceful today.
John had been a member since 1975 and also sailed at Halfway Yacht Club.
Funeral arrangements will be circulated when known.
On behalf of TBYC we send our condolences to his brother Peter and all his family.
