Dear All
I hope all of you have had a pleasant winter and are now eager to get back out on the water for this coming season, if any of you managed to get down to the Dinghy show at the weekend it was very informative and a good day out enough to wet the appetite for this coming year.
It’s that time of year again when we have new members coming into the club and fellow sailors deciding they want new challenges sailing different boats, if you are intending on selling your Pico can you please let me know so that I can keep a list of boats for sale ready for when I have an enquiry. I have four Pico’s on my list currently and hope that these can go to members within Thorpe Bay so we can keep the fleet together. We have a growing number of RS Tera’s and Optimists at the club so if you are intending on sailing one of these boats and are unsure where to get one then please contact me.
On another note I don’t know if you have all seen, but Mike Beresford our new Cadet Representative is holding a meeting at the club this Thursday at 8pm to discuss the T.O.P series, Cadets and Cadet week for this coming year and to get feedback from you all. If you didn’t attend Sundays meeting (which was very productive) please try and attend this meeting as we appreciate all feedback whether it is good or bad so that we can continue to have a thriving Cadet section within the club.
The sailing instructions for the T.O.P series will be sent out to you all within the next few weeks ready for the first series start in May. Remember if you have any friends who aren’t current Pico, RS Tera or Optimist owners who wish to participate within this series then please give them my details and I can add them to my mailing list.
See you at the club
Johnno

Dear all,
As previously advertised this Sunday we are holding a session to collect feedback and discuss ideas for this years Cadet week. Johnno Gillies will also cover any questions regarding the TOPS racing. I am aware that the RYA dinghy show is also on Sunday so an extra session is booked for next Thursday after Alex Farrell’s discussion.
I hope this helps those that could not attend on Sunday and look forward to seeing anyone interested at either session.
Regards,
Mike

Do you write all the racing dates from the programme onto a Calendar ? Why not just buy the TBYC Racing Calendar 2012-2013 and save the trouble. The Calendar contains all the racing and many other dates pre printed, with load of great photos from last seasons by Linzi.
The Calendar doesn’t start until April so you can preorder and pick it up after the middle of March.
If you would like to order one then you can do so by posting a cheque to TBYC for £12 before the 4th March. Otherwise you can order directly from www.lulu.com and search for TBYC, however unfortunately this option with P&P is over £15.
The Calendar was produced at no cost to the club and we hope that a small amount from each will go to the Cadets Fund Raising. If popular we will also hope to produce one for next year. If you want to see before ordering there is a couple already in the club.

This year CADET WEEK will commence on Monday August 20th this is due to a very challenging set of tides. We are not yet accepting applications but wanted to ensure all parents knew well in advance to allow planning for family holidays.
On Sunday March 4th a briefing/feedback and planning session will be held in the Commodores bar at 11am. This is intended for those parents wishing to discuss and share thoughts and ideas following previous Cadet weeks, in addition to outlining the initial plans of the Committee. Any parents are welcome to attend.
Last year was fantastic, this year we hope to build on that success.
Regards, Mike

A huge thanks to Rupert for a great launch to our winter Cadet Night Coaching sessions 56 Cadets attended to learn about ropes, their uses and to perfect the art of coiling and throwing them accurately. All seemed to enjoy the activities and it was great to see the older cadets helping the younger members of the group.
This was the first of many formal coaching sessions which will take place at Cadet night – particularly during the colder, dark evenings, these commence at 7pm for no more than an hour, each Thursday until the end of March.
Where required, further details will be posted on the website prior to each event by the organiser.
We hope this will be of interest and value to everyone and welcome your feedback – hopefully this will be something we can develop. If you have any questions please email me at [email protected]

Dear all,
Having recently taken on the role of Cadet Representative, I am keen to ensure the club meets the needs of both children and adults alike. My belief is that the broad range of ages, abilities and interests amongst the Cadets brings a great opportunity for learning, competition and friendship.
There are times however, when managing the activities of so many Cadets will be challenging and we would therefore be thrilled if more parents could assist with supporting the Cadet committee.
How our children behave and act at the club is our responsibility as parents and club members and whilst we want them to relax and enjoy themselves they must be courteous to other members (Cadet and Adult), the clubs neighbours and the general public. Our activities are highly visible to all. Continue Reading »
