Published by under Cadets,Racing

New Cadet Racing

The new course is aimed at all Cadets who can sail and to wish participate in a race with a shorter course, more laps over a reduced time.

There will be prizes for the older cadet as well as the less experienced sailors. A coach in a dedicated Support Rib will support the races.

Races will be raced under the TBYC Sailing Instructions. http://www.tbyc.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/TBYC_2015_SI.pdf

Your guideCadet course

  • There will be an optional briefing at 15.30 (1 hour before start.)
  • The race will be a windward leeward course starting at the committee boat. It will be the second start with the Fast and Slow Monohulls at 16.33. (Time plus 3 minutes).
  • First check the number of laps on the blackboard at the top of the slipway and / or check with Support Rib on the water. Your race does not use a shortened course.
  • Once on the water, go to the Committee boat and look for the last number on the BACK of the boat, which indicates D on the diagram / or check with Support Rib on the water.
  • On the starting signal, you will cross the line and beat to the CADET BUOY, which is a special buoy marked with a C. This will be your windward mark, leave to Port.
  • Run or reach down to the course. You must NOT go through the line on the downwind leg (as in the sailing instructions).
  • Beat up through the line and onto the Cadet buoy and continue until the displayed number of laps are completed.
  • As you cross the line the committee boat will record your time. They will not give you a signal. The Support Rib will blow a whistle unless is needed elsewhere.
  • On Saturday there are two Races. You can do both, but you will need to wait for the second race to be started. Check out the number of laps with the Support Rib.

New Cadet Racing – Training session on Friday

Published by under Cadets

New Cadet Sailing - long

Our first ‘New Cadet Racing’ season starts tomorrow Friday, with a training session that is aimed at sailors approximately 11 – 13 year old.
We will meet by the Dinghy Park gate at 10.00 am for a briefing.  We want to be started at 11.00 am.

We will aim the session at those can sail, and would benefit from a structured training session.  Picos, RS boats etc., helm and crew or single handed.

My first session will be:

Warm up reaches
Tacking on the whistle
Quick starts
Mini races (to familiarise the cadet with the new course)
Approx. 50 minutes

Just turn up, even if you were not one of the 24 youngsters and their parents that attended the meeting last week. All welcome!

A fun way to start the new season.

Meeting of Cadets and Parents to introduce the ‘NEW CADET RACING’

Published by under Cadets

New Cadet Sailing - long

7.30pm Cadet Evening, this Thursday 26th March

TBYC is introducing CADET RACING on all Sundays, when there is not a Trophy Race. This will be supported with structured training during the season to Club and RYA Championship level. The races will follow a shorter windward/leeward course, introducing a new Cadet Buoy and can be sailed in any class of boat. There will a dedicated member of the Cadet coaching team to help with advice on-shore and from a support Rib on the water. There will be Trophies and prizes for all ages.

Our aim is to help the Cadets gain the confidence to make the transition from the Pico series to Club racing and possibly further. We are keen to encourage the full age range and abilities, giving prizes to our Under 13 year old members, increasing to Under 16 and progressing to include our oldest and most experienced Cadets. This will allow all Cadets at every level to compete on similar terms, with as much support as they require.

The meeting will include a presentation and also time for you to discuss your requirements, possibly finding crews / helms, boat advice etc.

The link below is a full copy of the letter sent out with the TBYC Programme including dates and times.               Link: New TBYC Cadet Racing letter

We look forward to seeing you; Parents and Cadets and launching the new Cadet series of Racing and Training.

Coaching Team: Nick Alston, Nick Elmore, Howard Warrington, John Laliberte                                                   Pico Racing Garry Ellis      Sail training Stage 1 and 2 Nick Cotgrove

TBYC Cadets 5 Eton 0

Published by under Cadets,Club Notices

TBYC v Eton Nov 14 (4)The boys and girls in the RS Feva fleet exceeded expectations by beating Eton College 5 – 0 in a Team Race at Bray Lake near Windsor on Saturday. TBYC v Eton Nov 14 (3)In bright sunshine and with 10 to 13 mph winds, they practised their Team racing skill’s in the school’s Fireflies during the morning, ready to race the Eton boys after lunch. On this occasion, we were slightly older than the opposition and this lifted the team’s confidence. The starts were tight, with everyone on the line in a rising wind. By the first mark we managed a leading combination in most races, however this needed to be maintained on the forthcoming reaches and run.  TBYC were not going to be beating at this stage and with some cunning Team Racing moves, succeeded to win the match.  A great day was had by all and was concluded with afternoon tea and a thank-you speech made by Sam L.  Well done to the Squad!TBYC v Eton Nov 14 (5)
