Temporary Rib launching help needed

Published 10:59am on 26 Aug 2026

Despite Howard organising the repair of the BMW in time for the Hurricane nationals, it again broke down on the Friday, I would like to take time to thank Scott, Phil and Rob/Paul for not only providing support for open events with their personal Ribs, but for repeatedly stepping in to launch and then recover personal and club ribs on numerous occasions to facilitate Open events and Club racing, without them, club and open events simply would not happen.

This weekend we find ourselves in a similar position. Although this time we know in advance that the BMW will not be fixed in time. We have been working for the last couple of months to secure a replacement launch vehicle, but have the club has no resources to launch Ribs this weekend.

We have the 3-day Albacore Nationals starting Friday and club racing Saturday and Sunday. Many TBYC members are taking part in the Albacore Nationals, both sailing (good luck everyone!) and supporting. We have covered the launch and recovery for the Albacores, but desperately need a members with a car and towbar to launch and recover Club Ribs for Club Racing Saturday (12:00 start) and Sunday (12:45 start).

It is always our intention to run Club Racing from Polly when we have open events on, this enables good courses to be set and racers should notice little difference from usual racing. If you are Race officers for such club races and need help with Polly, please let us know and we can facilitate this for you. In the absence of anyone volunteering to launch and recover, there will be no club ribs available until further notice, and racing will continue with 2 displacements in support. Displacement crews should use a tender to row out to the boats. If you are on duty this weekend, please arrive in plenty of time to organise yourselves.

Remember, this is a members club, all the great events and racing happening at the club is just seen to happen, and for most, turn up, race and enjoy. It is times like these when we are stretched that everyones help is needed. If you can step up and help, contact Jeremy, Scott, Martin, Mark or your class captains and we will gratefully accept.

If you cant, then thank you for taking the time to read the post, and please remember those that are helping are flat out and dont need helpful comments without the offer of support. Actions really do speak louder than words.
