A warm welcome
A club for everyone who enjoys the water
Whether you are completely new to sailing or an experienced sailor, a warm welcome is extended to all prospective and new members.
TBYC is run by and for its members, with the primary aim of promoting and facilitating amateur dinghy and yacht sailing, alongside many other enjoyable activities in and around the water.
You do not need to own a boat or already know how to sail. Members can use a selection of club boats free of charge to learn, develop their skills, race or simply enjoy getting out on the water.

Membership options are available for individuals, couples, families, young adults, cadets, people aged 65 and over, weekday members and those who live further from the club.

Cadet sailing
Our active Cadet section supports young sailors through training, racing, monthly Cadet Nights and our popular annual Cadet Week, which welcomes more than 100 young people onto the water.

Membership information
Membership year
The TBYC subscription year runs from 1 April to 31 March annually. New member subscriptions are reduced quarterly to reflect the remaining membership period.
Paying subscriptions
Membership can be paid in full or by six equal monthly direct debit instalments. A 10% administration fee applies to the monthly payment option.
Full membership
Full members may enjoy the clubhouse, sailing facilities, club boats, sailing activities, racing and social events whenever the club is open.
Weekday membership
Weekday members may use the clubhouse socially during the applicable weekday opening periods and bank holidays, subject to club rules and opening times.
Payment dates
Renewal subscriptions and fees are due no later than 31 March. Instalment payments conclude in September. Subscriptions and fees not paid by 1 March may incur a 10% surcharge.

One-off payment
Joining fees
A one-off joining fee is payable when a new membership application is accepted.

Should a weekday member later change to full membership, the residual joining fee may become payable.
Reduced subscriptions
Available discounts
One-parent families
A £150 reduction from the applicable family membership rate.
Distance members
A 25% reduction may apply to members ordinarily residing more than 25 miles from TBYC for at least six months each year.
Students
A 25% reduction may apply to eligible student members.
Maximum reduction
Combined discounts may amount to a maximum reduction of 25% from the applicable full membership rate.
How applications work
Important membership notes
Application process
New applications are displayed in the clubhouse before being considered at the monthly General Committee meeting. Applicants are invited to seek existing members to propose and second their application.
Monthly payments
Members paying monthly remain responsible for the full subscription for that membership year. Should a member leave before the end of the year, the remaining balance will become payable.
Family membership
Family membership applies to people living at the same address. Children living at that address may be included up to age 21.
Boat storage and moorings
Additional charges apply for dinghy park spaces, kayak storage, moorings and winter storage. Fees are generally calculated according to the type and size of the boat.
Sailing activities fee
A sailing activities or storage fee may apply to boats lifted out, stored, moored at TBYC or regularly sailed from the club premises.
Cadet membership
A parent or guardian of a cadet must be a Full TBYC member and remain present and responsible for the cadets care and supervision.
A member-run club
Helping with club duties
Sailing and racing are supported by volunteer race teams and safety boats. Members are encouraged to take part in the rota and help fellow members enjoy safe sailing.
This usually amounts to approximately four duties per year. You do not need to arrive with qualifications; training, guidance and support can be provided.

Club boats available to members
Several dinghies, including Optimists, Laser Picos, Lasers and Fevas, are available for members to book and use free of charge.
They provide an excellent way to learn, consolidate your sailing skills or simply enjoy time on the water before deciding whether to purchase a boat of your own.
There are also opportunities to crew with members across the clubs sailing sections.
Member bar discount
Members receive a 10% discount on drinks purchased from the club bar.
