Dragon Force 65 - Model Boat Racing, Come and watch the fun!!

Southchurch Pond - 10.30am Saturday 14th March
This Saturday sees the final race of the Icicle Series. Hang on! I hear you say! Its on Sunday is it not! Well you would be right for the main club racing but not for Thorpe Bay Yacht Clubs newest and largest fleet. With almost 30 boats in the fleet the Dragonforce 65 is by far the most successful. With a minimum of 10 boats racing in each event this fleet is both well supported and highly competitive.
For those who are wondering what the hell I am rambling on about, a Dragonforce 65 yacht is about 2 foot long and radio controlled and sailed on the Southchurch Park pond!
Let me tell you, its some of the most exciting racing you will ever see. With the pond being where it is, we see ridiculous wind shifts and equally ridiculous gusts and lulls. It is so much fun!
We have scheduled our racing alongside the clubs. We did a Winter Series and now the Icicle Series is about to be concluded. We schedule racing on a non-club sailing day. The Winter and Icicle series consist of 6 mini regattas of 6 races per regatta. The final results of each regatta formed the main series positions. The Winter Series was won by Paul Dell who sailed superbly. 2nd Alex Warrington and 3rd Jeremy Sandford,
The Icicle Series is currently being led by Alex Warrington and myself in 2nd with Jeremy Sandford in 3rd. So, with Myself and Alex away this weekend it will be for the others to take us out! Its looking like a breezy day on Saturday, so if you fancy coming to watch the racing, it usually starts at around 10:30. You never know, you might get the bug. Even our Commodore Martin is getting into it and after a few weekends practice is really getting in the mix!
