RRS 62 – Seeking redress

Published by at 15:50 under Race Officers,Racing

I wish to record my displeasure with the actions of the race officer and his team yesterday, Sunday January 29th.

Just because our new committee boat has cooking facilities does not mean that they should be used if such action could be detrimental to competitors. The smell of bacon around the committee boat and as far as 100m downwind was so strong that I almost retired after 2 laps and my third lap was impeded by an overwhelming desire to head straight for the club kitchen. Conversations that I heard seemed more concerned with whether ketchup or brown sauce was favourite than the wind conditions.

Come on chaps, have some heart.

Robin, we did offer you one but you declined, we had plenty for all racers but they didn’t want to stop as they went through the line and take advantage of Peters excellent cooking.

committee boat is the place to be, heater on, bacon sarnies, pot of tea and of course expert commentary on the sailing!

all are welcome to come out and see what fun it is, at one stage it was so hot in the cabin that we had to open all the hatches, hence the woft of bacon…

    happy days

I will second that Robin, i too was in a fantastic starting slot until the woft hit me, i lost all ability to concentrate, thus allowing Allan Burrell to get upwind of me, had this not of happened i know i would have beaten him across the finish line !!!!! (it could happen in a laser you know)

    From grateful SeaSafe crew.
Its only early days for using the new committee boat and already, we have sampled tasty bacon sarnies Sunday just gone. Thanks guys. XXX
PS. Have Barry & Peter been watching ‘The Hungry sailors’ though? Next time, along with the bacon, could I kindly ask that I have my onions roughly chopped, cooked over a medium heat & sweated down until golden brown. Toss in a few ripe vine tomatoes cut in half along with a dash of balsamic vinegar, a dash of seasoning & cooked until lightly caramilized. Thick cut fresh crusty bread lightly toasted, smothered with a knob of butter & served with a smile. Perfect.

I prefer a BLT made with granary bread, smoked bacon, sliced vine tomatoes, mixed leaf and Hellmans mayonnaise, but this is besides the point. I don’t want to smell it while I’m racing!

Robin, I have two wads of cotton wool and some selotape that I am happy to donate to you …… used only once!

Hang on to them Kevin as you’re bound to need them again yourself.

chaps wait until you see the new 7ft stainless BBQ that delboy is making to fit on the rear davits, when we are cooking off of that in the summer imagine how you will want to speed past the line to collect some garlic prawns or a tasty cheese burger or sticky chicken wings,

along with a beer or wine from the fridge.

forget the racing …. race officer is the way forward
