Chris Hull
Yesterday a body was recovered from the sea and identified as Chris, very very sad in every way but at least we now have an opportunity to pay our last respects.
Chris entertained many of us with his great sense of humour both on and off the water with his last “on stage” appearance at the prize giving supper where the multihull class gave him ample ammunition with their years antics. Chris drew laughter from every quarter with his witty and very clever speech.
Many of us are still trying to understand this tragedy and now the sea he loved has relinquished its hold, Chris can be brought home for a fitting send off for a truly great member.
there will be a book of condolences on the bar which will be presented to the family in due course.

A Tragic end for someone who clearly loved the sport of sailing. He supported the club every weekend without fail even though getting to the start on time was rarely achieved.
He will be sorely missed – he was always a friendly kind person – we were all better off for knowing.

I, like all who knew him, am mortified by the loss of a dear friend, Chris. Having raced with him and against him both in the Hurricane 5.9SX Catamaran (Dinghy) and on Yachts here in Southend and at events around the country I take joy from my memories of good times with a great man. His banter and fun, on and off the water never ceased and I’m sure like I there are few who will ever remember him not smiling. An infectious laugh and always wearing a smile. These things I will miss the most.
My one fault in Chris was having spent 4 or 5 days on a Yacht in the Solent next to him was that ‘my god could he snore’ : I’m sorry Chris if your looking down…I had to make you sleep outside for that reason. The other was his naming of boats especially the one he sold to Struan Wallace that being the one I sail on with said Struan…… Who in their right mind would name a boat “Two Fat Blokes on a Boat”….(Only Chris)
Whenever you saw him you expected a laugh; he never failed. My last great sailing experience with him was September last year at the Island Yacht Club (Canvey) what fun we had I don’t think we stopped laughing and I know all of IYC are devastated by his loss too. Your gone but never forgotten thinking of you and your dear family.

Recovering Chris’ body is indeed ‘welcome’ news and will allow his family closure on this aspect of his sad loss. I will always remember Chris on his Hurricane with a smile on his face and a cigarette close to hand, thoroughly enjoying his time on the water.

This is such an awful thing to happen to someone as kind and funny as Chris was, he will be sorely missed on and off the water.

A great loss to the club. Chris was a jovial fellow. He made everyone laugh with his sense of ridicule, which was always in the best of taste. I also valued his opinions. I will miss his company.
There is comfort in knowing that someone so special and kind will never be forgotten, sincere condolences to Chris’ family.

The Funeral of Chris Hull will take place at 1pm on friday 4th March at Southend Crematorium.
