Navigating in the pursuit race

Published by at 12:04 under Racing,Sandhoppers

great fun race yesterday and fantastic to see so many cadets taking part in the windy conditions, the sandhoppers were out in force with Nemesis taking first place in our class, well done Paul and Toby.

I would like to point out that one of the sandhoppers was taking part in a different race, Sand  Star helmed by our commodore and crewed by a man with his own fleet of boats thought it was the Queenborough race and headed for the kent shore, yes messers saunders and Hopper made a massive school boy error and went the wrong way, to make matters worse, upon rejoining the pursuit race all be it a country mile behind, they decided to retire and go fo an early bath.

with all the experience that hopper has sailing around the Uk and the commodore who has just returned from a sailing holiday in Greece, you would expect them to be able to navigate to mark Y.

next time boys follow the cadets, they seem to have better idea of where to go.

Fellow members, when you see either Steve or Gordon dont forget to talk to them about their school boy error.

…and how did the Sandhoppers fare against the Sprints, Barry?

not sure Howard as the results seemed to be a bit wrong, but its only a fun race,
however when would you and Andrew like to take up the sandhopper challange?
obviously dont get any tips from Gordon or Steve.

Is the challenge Barry and myself sailing sprint 15’s in one race against Howard and Andrew, and then Andrew and Howard sailing a sandhopper together against Barry and myself, lowest aggregate score are the winners losers £ 20.00 in the slipway fund.
    Bring it on sprint losers.

PS saw a sprint in 2 bits in the dinghy park is this Andrews attempt to start a new fleet of sprint 7.5’s

Just forgot to mention Gordon you must be the first person to helm Sandstar and not win. “LOSER”

In my defence I would like to say that we in fact did the right course!
Had the race officer put the correct marks in the correct order ont the blackboard we would have won by miles.
Anyway this is all abit rich coming from someone who watched the race through the bottom of a bottle of Corona!!!

Boys, When will you learn, get a fast cat like the Hurricane and blast around the right course, we started last and Rodger & Chris got to the finish line first! closely followed by Nick and myself. Just a shame we didn’t have the angles for a kite run. Great fun. Can’t wait untill i’m really old, then i’ll treat myself to a, Mmm! No your right, I would have to be dead to have a Sandhopper. Good luck Andrew and Howard.

Don’t worry Struan, Howard and I will despatch Barry in the Sandhoppers, unless he gives us Undine or one of the others covered in weed.

I’ll make sure Barry borrows my boat: the one which finished the pursuit race will a hull completely full of water! Going upwind, it was about the same speed as a Sandhopper. So Barry will be used to it…..!
