Aims of the Pico Series:
-
Have fun and encourage as many club members as possible (both adults and cadets) to take part in each of the series.
-
Develop confidence and understanding in the rules of racing.
-
Advance members sailing and racing skills.
-
Act as a stepping-stone into the main club racing events especially for those new to racing.
-
Provide video footage/feedback of each race to support training.
-
Provide a benchmark standard for cadets wishing to take part in the race training section during cadet week.
Racing rules for the Wetsuit Outlet Pico Series (in addition to Club Racing Rules).
1: Entry type – either single handed (mainsail only) or double handed (mainsail and jib) must be maintained for an entire series. Crew changes are permitted for different races.
2: Racing is for Picos only. Remember Club Picos will be prioritised for Sail Training over racing. Single handed and double handed entrants will race against each other as a one design.
3: Entrants will be expected to be able to right a Pico individually if sailing single handed or as a pair if sailing double handed. Entrants should be able to sail a Pico around a triangular course fairly efficiently, being at Stage 2 standard or above as the helm (although it is not vital to have taken the Stage 2 to enter).
4: Each Pico Series will consist of 6 races over 3 Saturdays with no discards. All race results to count. Prize giving will take place at the main Club prize giving event.
5: Parents / Carers of cadet entrants, not involved as part of a team on the water, must either be in attendance (for health and safety reasons) and be able to assist with launching and recovery if appropriate or to have handed over responsibility for their child(ren) to another adult who has agreed to fulfil their duty. (See Parent Charter).
6: As with all Club racing, it is the responsibility of the parent or carer of cadet entrants to make the decision on behalf of their child(ren) whether or not to take part in the event as may be appropriate to the entrants individual ability on the water. Duty Officers and or Race Officers will cancel a race if they feel it is in the interest of safety and their decision is final.
Race Coaching:
As one of the aims of this series is to promote dinghy-racing to all members, we are keen to provide coaching before and after the events. Each Thursday Cadet Night, immediately prior to a Pico Series, there will be race-coaching either in the Sail Training Room or on the water if appropriate.
In order to provide the best possible feedback and learning opportunities we will be using video footage of each race as the basis for discussion at the following Thursday Cadet Night.
