The event everyone has been waiting for – TBYC’s Totally Tropical Caribbean night

From 6pm on Saturday July 24th

Caribbean BBQ includes: Jerk Chicken, bbq ribs, regga ribs, burgers topped with pineapple and cheese, corn on the cob, roasted vegatable couscous, beef tomatoes and red onions, mixed lettuce, homemade coleslaw, hot new potatoes and fruit platters. A rum punch bar will be set up on the balcony for that real Caribbean feel. Food will be served between 6pm – 8pm

Entertainment is being provided by the Big Sand Steel Band and there will also be Pinates and limbo for all those people feeling flexible.

Prizes will be awarded to the 2 best dressed adults and children.

All this and more for only £10 for adults and £8 for children up to the age of 13.

Tickets will be available behind the bar from tonight – get yours quick to avoid missing out on the event of the summer!

This is a ticket only event and for those not wanting food there will be entertainment tickets at a price of £5 per person

We will be hosting a fun/friendly pre World Cup 5 aside tournament on the green outside the club from 4pm tomorrow.

Everyone is welcome to get involved, the more the merrier!!!

there will be beer/soft drinks for the winning team.

TBYC Has New Laser Pico National Champion

Congratulation to Alex Farrell on winning the Pico Nationals 2009. Alex won the National Championship Trophy and the top place Under 15 Trophy.

Chris Clark came 3rd sailing with new cadet member Maddie Shields taking the Designers Trophy for the first Adult/Cadet combination.

The first boat with a combined age of 21 years or under, and taking the Isle of Wight Trophy was Alex Warrington and Teddy Elmore.

With a 56 boat turnout this has firmly established TBYC as the best club to race your Pico with visiting boats from Wales to the Isle of Wight.

Thanks to Simon Bown for his work behind the scenes with preparation, to the Race Officer team and the Rescue Boat helms & crew.

Finally thanks to LaserPerformance for the great prizes and help throughout the event.

Less than two weeks to go so if you havn’t sent in your entry form now is the time to go and do it.

Please note the Parent Declaration form corrupts when downloaded from the club website. This form can be completed at registration on the Saturday morning of the Nationals, if you need it in advance please email me and I will send you a copy.

New Laser Race Mainsail with sail numbers £150 (RRP £295) are available to those entering the Pico Nationals. Please email me for further details.

This offer is open to all competitors sailing at the Nationals, including visitors.

Calling all potential Laser 4.7 sailors

Do you sail a Laser Pico? Getting too big for it? Wonder where to go next?

A laser with a 4.7 rig could be ideal. The 4.7 is the smallest of the 3 rigs designed for use on a one design Laser. The sail is smaller than a Pico Race main but the boat is much faster – particularly off wind when it really flies.

We have several younger members sailing the Laser 4.7 already and it looks like 2009 will be the year when we really take off.

When you outgrow the 4.7 you can stay with a Laser by moving up to the Radial rig.

The Laser Centre are loaning us 6 boats for use at Thorpe Bay over the end of May bank holiday weekend – 23/24/25th. Please email me at laser@1st.com to add yourself or your child to my list of those interested.

Parents. A secondhand Laser need not be expensive and if you are selling a Pico the difference could be a lot less than you think. Laser have sold over 190,000 Lasers since the early 1970′s so choice and availability is excellent. Provided that you buy sensibly you won’t lose money when it’s time to sell either.
