Noisy Halyards

During this period of high winds the club has received numerous complaints from our neighbours regarding the noise from halyards against masts. Would members with boats in the boat-park, cruisers, catamarans and dinghies, please ensure that their halyards are tied off.

Please keep our neighbours happy.

TBYC Volvo Ocean Race Game

Hi All, for all you armchair sailors, and following popular demand I am sponsoring a trophy for the best placed TBYC virtual boat in the game. For those of you who have not entered or who do not know about it, then here are a few facts. The virtual race mirrors the actual Volvo ocean race covering 8 legs over 9 months. The game has in excess of 120000 virtual boats. leg 1 is complete but we will run each leg as a race in a series and load the entrants on Hal’s racing programme as a series. The series will have 2 discards for the 8 legs to enable newcomers to join in and possibly win!!!. After the first leg the top five TBYC boats were 1st Daren Fitchew, 2nd Jeremy Sandford, 3rd Steve Healey, 4th Steve Hopper and 5th David Hopper.

The next leg starts on Sunday 11th Dec 2011 so get registered and join in the banter and fun!!!

vertical ones that is. I’ve received a call from one of the Club’s neighbours asking whether we can stop the cowbell noise coming from the boatpark. Please, please would everyone park halyards away from masts.

A wider range of TBYC clothing is now available. New softshell jackets, a smarter alternative to a fleece, and knitted beanie hats, for chilly Winter sailing, can be seen in the display case in the clubhouse.

Sunsail race series

The sunsail race series is on again and TBYC had six boats enter last year, made up of teams of friends from various fleets.
The sandhopper team that won the event last year have entered for this year which is over the weekend of 24/25 September, racing is held in the solent and the 40′ boats are brand new they take 12 persons you also sleep on them overnight, cost is £1180 per boat so £100 per person for a weekends sailing and accommodation! bargain.

Date for your diary everybody….NORE RACE 2011, Sat 9th July. So get entered and win some great prizes.

Start times for Groups 1 & 2 Dinghies-Multihull & Monohull….start signal; 10:40.

Start times for Groups 3 & 4 Cruisers-Multihull & Monohull…..start signal; 10:50.

Southend on Sea: HW 07:11 (5.3m) & 19:54 (5.2m) BST…..LW 13:10 BST.

Entry fee is a snip at £12.00 for all classes and this includes free entry for the prizegiving at 19:30 on friday 15 th July for all entrants, crew & family. Barbecue food is available to buy and ‘Plan C’ will be providing the music for the evening.

Entry forms are available to be downloaded off the Benfleet YC website and have to arrive by post Thur 7 July or in person by 21:00 on fri 8th July. Also a coloured chart of course, flags & signals to download:

Fast multihull cats with handicap below 720, expect to do 2 laps, (32 miles).

Myself & Sophie will be in SS7. If you wish to leave your munchies, stella artois etc for ‘safe keeping’ until after the race then give us a shout. Cost of the looking after said items will be half the ‘booty’.
