Jess Quinlan & Alex Warrington – Otters/TBYC GBR 8407
George Warrington & Greg Watson – TBYC GBR 9029
Fishers Green Open Meeting
A popular “pond” event which this year was run in very difficult conditions. With not only 32 kts of breeze and very shifty but also sudden lulls and gusts caused by the many trees made this entertaining to watch to say the least! However Jess and Alex managed to secure a very solid 2nd overall in a 39 strong fleet. Showing off their great spinnaker work and boat handling, blasting them through the fleet after what was a lottery of a beat in most cases.
George and Greg did very well and were 23rd despite not sailing in the last 2 races after a bad capsize, which is a great improvement for him. Especially considering that it was Greg’s very first Cadet event and only his 3rd time in the boat!…… Well done Greg!

Squadron 17 revival!
The only 3 sail race dinghy designed purely for youngsters!

The UK National Cadet Class Association have heard that we are trying to revive the Cadet Class fleet at TBYC and many of you have already commented how great it is to see these boats return to the club. The Asscociation have very kindly given me 2 boats to help us revive Squadron 17 (last in operation over 20 years ago!)
Boat available immediately, ready to sail in the Winter Series!
I am looking for 2 cadets for one of these boats. You will have full responsibility for the boat – insurance, dinghy park fees and running repairs. But the use of the boat is FREE. It would also be desirable that you try to take part in the 3 Indicator events and the Nationals next year.
NB: These are not “beach boats” and are to be used for racing and sail training only.
If you want to know more or are interested in taking a boat please contact me: hwarrington@btinternet.com and come and join the only double-handed youth racing dinghy fleet. Or if you want to buy your own boat click here for the UKNCCA for sale list: http://www.mariner.co.uk/classifieds/pages/search/searchresult.asp

3rd Indicator – Parkstone YC
Great weekend’s sailing in 12kt breeze, albeit very shifty making the beats very complex and seeing some “outsiders” coming through the fleet. Jess and Alex finished 6th overall after a reasonably consistent event. Molly and Ben cam 3rd in the Silver fleet and were often in the top 10 at the windward mark. George and Johnny had a comendable 29th place in one race. Again, the chance and experiance of sailing in a huge fleet (75 entries) is a fantastic opportunity for our youngsters.
WORLD TEAM SELECTIONS
After this consistent weekend, Jess and Alex have qualified 5th out of the 7 boats selected to represent GBR at the coming World Championships to be held in Argentina at Christmas. This is a great achievement and we are all very proud of their success. This will now be Alex’s 3rd World Team selections since being asked to crew for Ollie Herve in Wales. Thanks Ollie!!

So now comes the difficult time of raising the funds to send them! If any club member has any ideas or whose company might be able to offer some form of sponsorship I would be very pleased to hear from you.

Tough event sailed in the tail of hurricane Bill, so we had heavy breeze and huge seas and 2 days blown out completely.
However Jess and Alex managed 9th place from 92 entered but although their World Team standings slipped 2 places, their huge lead on the fleet meant that they retained 4th spot out of the 7 to qualify for the Worlds in Argentina – still all to play for with the last Indicator in 2 weeks at Parkstone…… watch this space.
World Team Results http://www.kbsuk.com/data/CadetEvents/data/results/mywebos.html
George and Johnny were 66th and Molly and Ben, both sailing in their 1st nationals were 50th.
I am very excited now that we have 3 cadet boats at TBYC – and judging by the comments from members in the dinghy park so are you! The UKNCCA are also very excited and keen to bring back “Squadron 17″ into the fold and are keen to assist…..! So if you have an interest in joining the fleet and would like to try a Cadet please let me know – I might be able to help more than you think! (Cadets no older than 16yrs).
